took this while I was on my way to work, my wife could not figure out why I was laughing.

Metalepsis,
Cheers mate. I have been reading your blog for quite a while now. Thanks for posting once again after a bit of a layoff.
The picture of the van is quite funny. It seems that "fundamentalists" are not real cheeky about the emergent church. Since you are in America, can you help me understand what all the fuss is about.
Fundy's have been notoriously concerned about the boundaries of Christianity, they obsess about what one must believe to be in the in group, and they usually delineate these requirements around pet doctrines like inherency. In all fairness it is not just emergent, fundy's don't like a lot of Christians.
They also have a fundamental problem with the way in which many emergent worship gatherings have displaced the primacy of preaching, they seem to think the sermon was why the church was created.
As to why American's are so uptight in general, I suggest it is because most have confused Christianity with a form of American Civil Religion, that Hauerwas would call Constantinian.
Thanks for your reply. I guess I need to do some more reading about fundamentalism in America. I don't know that we have experienced what you have here across the pond.
I see that you are pursuing a PhD from Sheffield? Are you coming back over here? Where did you do your MDiv/ThM work? DTS? Trinity?
This blog is my attempt at thinking through the issues pertaining to biblical studies and how they relate to the wider world.
Also you can be like Jim West and follow me @flyingclown on twitter!
